Langara College, known as snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ in Halkomelem, is a public degree-granting college situated in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The college serves approximately 6,500 students each year, offering a range of university, career, and continuing studies programs. In the 2022-23 academic year, Langara College had the highest percentage of international students among public colleges in British Columbia, standing at 37%, a notable increase from 33% in the previous academic year. Unfortunately, there is no on-campus student housing available.
The college derives its name from the neighborhood in which it is located, named after Spanish Admiral Juan de Lángara.
Langara College has a rich history, with courses and programs initially being offered in 1965 at King Edward Centre, a part of Vancouver City College. Since 1970, Langara has been located on West 49th Avenue, celebrating over 50 years at this campus. On April 1, 1994, Langara College gained independent public college status under the Provincial College and Institute Act. In 1997, Langara College Continuing Studies was established, and to accommodate the growing need for space, new classroom and office buildings were opened in January 1997. In September 2007, a new library/classroom building was introduced. Furthermore, Langara College expanded its campus with the construction of the Science and Technology Building in 2013 as part of Phase II of the Master Plan, ultimately completed in September 2016.
