What is the difference between normal bachelor’s and bachelor honors degrees?
Ordinary and honours, both are academic degrees offered by the universities to undergraduate students. The concept of the honours degree was first introduced in Britain and later spread over other countries such as Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, India, etc. The duration of both degrees is also almost the same. However, in some countries, honours degrees can take more time than the other.
The curriculum of honours level courses is particularly designed at a higher standard than that of normal degree programs. It is because the degree is considered more superior than the normal one. It is believed that the honours degrees offer more adequate higher study options and career opportunities to students not just in India but in abroad.
Ordinary degrees are also called bachelor’s degrees and are much common than the other one. These degrees are offered by almost all the institutions across the globe. This allows students higher study options in a particular area of study. One can search and find a job after completing their education as per their area of interest.
Look at the following points to have a clearer picture of the difference between these degree types:
- Ordinary degrees are much easier to pursue when compared with the honours degrees
- The students need to pass additional papers to get their honours degree when compared to the other one
Although both the degrees – honours and ordinary are similar up to a certain limit, a slight difference is also there between the two. From an academic viewpoint, honours degrees stand at a high level when compared with ordinary degrees.
