The Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology, often referred to as Niagara College or Niagara College Canada, is a public college located in the Niagara Region and the city of Toronto in Southern Ontario, Canada. It operates multiple campuses in Ontario and has international operations in Asia, including campuses in Saudi Arabia and the Canada-China College in Wuhan, China.
The college has three campuses within Ontario: the Welland Campus in Welland, the Daniel J. Patterson Campus/Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the Toronto School of Management Partnership Campus in Toronto. However, their Maid of the Mist Campus in Niagara Falls closed in 2018.
Niagara College’s history dates back to 1967 when its Welland Campus was established as part of the provincial initiative to create colleges of applied arts and technology in Ontario. Over the years, the college expanded and diversified its programs. In 1998, it opened the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus, where its hospitality, tourism, and culinary programs are now located. Notably, the Niagara College Teaching Winery, the first commercial teaching winery in Canada, was launched in 2002, followed by the Niagara College Teaching Brewery in 2011, making it the first of its kind in Canada. These programs and facilities are now part of Niagara College’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute.
Additionally, the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus has historical significance, as it was the site of the Black Swamp, which Laura Secord traveled through during her journey to warn British Lieutenant FitzGibbon of an impending American attack in the early 19th century.
