Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts is an open institution that was established in 1938. The institute mainly focuses on art & design studies. It admits students after the completion of their secondary school. It offers specialisation degrees like 3D design programmes after the students have completed an internship and two to three years of education. This academy has emerged at rapid growth over the years. It is in partnership with many international universities and organisations. This industry-oriented institute offers recognised courses to the students. It began its classes with only a few students and by 2015, the number of enrolments increased to 2,400 students.
An Overview
The institute offers degree programmes, diploma programmes, and short-term programmes. The academic curriculum of the university features a wide list that includes the Fine Arts programme, Fashion Studies programme, Design and Media programme, 3D Design programme, Dance programme, Music programme, Arts Management programme and Theatre programme. This gives students a great opportunity to choose as per their area of interest. The students learn under skilled faculty members. Many industry professionals visit the institute for practical workshops, interactive sessions and guest lectures. The students also visit notable organisations and work as interns under professionals, gain industry exposure and understand about fieldwork.
Location of the University
The institute comprises three campuses. The first campus features digital classrooms, a Creative Media Studio for 3D animation and special effects, audio-video production facilities and a High Definition Studio. It has photography studios and workshop rooms along with three art galleries. This campus also has a two-storey library that features a huge collection of arts-related publications and journals. Thousands of bilingual databases and research papers are on the first floor of the library. The students can also access the online resources available at the library. The second campus is home to the workshops for textile development, embroidery design, batik printing, and drafting and draping.
It also features the Department of Fashion Studies. The third campus has a theatre with a seating capacity of 380 students. A rotating central platform is also developed on the stage with adjustable orchestra pits. The famous Black box theatre is also set within the premises. Moreover, a Recital hall, soundproof music studio, and a dance studio are also built within this campus. The students are provided with all the basic facilities required at the campus. They experience a calm learning atmosphere. Many cafes and restaurants are nearby this campus. A few stationery shops, general stores and medical shops are also set close to the campus.
Recognition
Widely recognised in Southeast Asia, NAFA’s reputation is founded on its innovative curriculum and teaching approaches, as well as its diverse artistic creations. NAFA receives polytechnic-level funding from the Ministry of Education, Singapore and is the first comprehensive arts education institution to receive the coveted 4-year EduTrust certification awarded by the Council for Private Education in 2011.
