NorQuest College is a publicly funded community college located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Initially established as Alberta Vocational College (AVC), the college was officially founded by the Government of Alberta in 1965. Its primary objective was to provide untrained and underemployed individuals in Alberta with the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary for the industrialized workforce.
In its early years, AVC included four academic upgrading classrooms, a space for 60 business education students, a barber shop, a beauty culture lab, and a welding and equipment maintenance shop. Additional programs were offered at separate locations in Edmonton. With government plans to construct a centralized downtown site for the college in 1970, all of these programs would be consolidated under one roof by 1971. This expansion resulted in a significant increase in student enrollment, rising from 550 students in 1966 to 2,300 in 1972. The college also developed new programs and expanded and revised existing ones to meet the educational needs of its growing student body.
